Ebiara (berlinia grandiflora) is also known as Red Zebrawood, berlinia, aben, poculi, and essaben. This exotic hardwood comes mostly from West African countries such as Cameroon, Gabon, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Congo and Zaire where the tress can be found growing up to 130 feet tall and with trunk diameters up to 48 inches. Ebiara has a whitish pink sapwood with a heartwood color that ranges from red to brown and purplish brown streaks throughout. When quartersawn this timber resembles Zebrawood but without the Zebrawood odor. Tap is somewhat brighter than IRW.

Bob: Have never heard of this wood but just based on looks alone it should be popular. Wonder if you have any tech data or know of folks who have used it. Quite reasonably priced too.

Pretty stuff. Actually I think it looks better than zebrawood - which a little too much for my taste.

According to this at least, physical properties seem to be similar to IRW. http://www.woodworkerssource.com/show_n ... randiflora

Right on Greg and it doesn't have that Zebrawood smell.

Pretty wood. Do you have any info on color stability?

It is pretty, but it smells worse than anything else I have in the shop. Hopefully that dissipates as the wood continues to age.

Mike the color is very stable but note that all woods darken to some degree.

Tom we have sold quite a few sets of this wood. Unfortunately I haven't received any feedback yet.

It's clear that folks respond to different wood scents differently. A lot of the ones that some people complain about (regular zebrawood, for example) I don't notice at all. This one definitely gets to me. (My set came from you, btw. Nice looking set, thanks. I'm going to let it sit for a while [uncle] )

Well that is odd. Regular zebra wood stinks to most people insluding me. :D
